Why Millennial Project Managers are Redefining Remote Leadership - Weekly Newsletter

Welcome to our weekly newsletter!

Hey friend,

This week I'm shining a light on my effort rather than my achievements. Whether I did my best work even if the result wasn't what I would have liked. And by "work" I take it to include my personal life too. It's a good idea to think of it as a spotlight, highlighting the important ways in which you are doing your best.

Some Thoughts

When making decisions we often know the costs but don’t know the benefits. This makes decision making difficult. For example, we know that eating healthily means we cannot eat takeout daily. We know the benefits more-or-less, but what are they exactly? Will we avoid a heart attack in 12 years and 28 days? Similarly, will going on a writing course get me a promotion as a PM? Maybe, maybe not. When making decisions try to think more deeply about the unknown benefits. Write down possible benefits and guess at a percentage chance that they will occur. It’s not exact, but it gives you a much better view of what’s possible.

What you will learn this week:

🙋‍♀️ How millennials are changing the workplace

✏️ How to use your unique leadership skills for good

👨‍💻 The major upside of growing up with technology

Why Millennial Project Managers are Redefining Remote Leadership

Introduction

Millennials are changing the workplace. And showing the way to Gen Z who will change it even more. By saying no to things that just do not work for them. You may not agree with it but it’s happening. The people-pleasing of the past is quickly ending. First to fall is the traditional office.

Remote work has transformed from a temporary solution into a permanent fixture in many industries. Millennials, who make up 40% of today’s workforce, find themselves in a unique position to lead this shift. Having grown up with technology, valuing flexibility, and favouring collaboration over rigid hierarchies, Millennial managers are well-equipped to navigate remote project management.

But how exactly should the Millennial project manager do their work? How do they show their independence and new ideas while not making enemies in the corporate hierarchy?

Let’s look at the strategies Millennial managers are using to lead remote projects. Drawing from these practices, personal experience and industry best practices, we’ll explore how to leverage Millennial strengths to overcome common remote work challenges and lead teams effectively.

31 August 2025 Hey friends This week's newsletter has a bit of a career focus. Some things to help your career and some things to help you re-evaluate where you want to go. I have new, more senior positions opening up in my company, but I don't want to apply for them. And I've asked myself why this is. And there are a few reasons, I think. The first is that I'm quite happy with my life. I'm quite satisfied. I think that I earn a reasonable amount of money. Secondly, I have a reasonable amount...

24 August 2025 Hey friends I have new senior management starting soon and it's created a bit of fear in me and I wanted to examine why I have that fear. Is it because that I don't think I'm good enough? Is it because I'm scared that my way of working will be challenged? Is it because I'll be pushed out of my comfort zone? Or is it because I think that our team has already reached perfection and doesn't need change? If I was completely confident in myself and in my team, my processes and...

17 August 2025 Hey friends I am stretched super thin at the moment. I have too many hobbies. Too many pseudo-hobbies (half-work-half-hobby). Too much real, paying work. And what I find is the age-old truth: What you focus on, grows. What you neglect, withers. Even if I feel like I am still doing the bare minimum, I soon see that I am letting things slip. Giving things up is hard though. Do you feel like you are doing too much? Spread too thin? The Big Idea Are you doing more than ever but...
