Is Working as Night Better? - Weekly Newsletter

Welcome to our weekly newsletter!

13 April 2025

Hey friend,

I've been a bit slow in keeping up with social media for these past few weeks. Life has just been busy. It happens. But I'm still keeping Substack full of short, punchy ideas. See you there.

Some Thoughts

To communicate well, talk in pictures. When we communicate, we give facts and figures. We tell people this, that, and the other. We stand before them, earnest and dry, and give our opinions. To communicate better, animate your words with pictures. Create movement and dynamic, create personality, and make it personable. This way you take your ideas from black-and-white to full color.

Working at Night. The Ultimate Guide to No-Distraction Productivity!

Your days are busy. They are filled with meetings, emails, reporting, video calls and endless distractions. But that is not all you need to do in the day. You also have a life to live. Home admin, kids schedules to manage, your yoga class, that expired drivers licence to renew. Or maybe you would just like to take a walk and drink a coffee, slowly. But which tasks should you do after-hours? How long should you spend? Will your team/boss/client be upset? In this article I’ll share practical tips to win the day, by working the night. Without burning out.

Understanding the Night Shift Mentality

I have something exciting to share. I made an app. And it’s free. Because I get asked this question literally every day: WhatHappenedWhen. So I made an app to help track exactly that. It’s a simple web based app (runs on your work computer) for project managers to quickly capture project events as they happen. Whether it’s a key decision, a delay, or a stakeholder update, simply type what happened and when it happened. You can view the timeline of project events and export it easily. It’s built for clarity, speed, and nothing else. No fluff. The app is currently in beta, so your feedback is especially valuable. Click the button below to sign up and I will personally send you the link! 😎

Until next time,

Welcome to our weekly newsletter! 15 June 2025 Hey friend, I'm feeling the effects of stretching myself too thin and focusing on too many things at once. My day job, my night job (writing articles for you), my family and friends, my health and my finances. While all of these things are necessary, it's hard to keep them all in balance. My new subscribers count is very low and I feel as if my rate of writing is lower. Oh well, I guess there's nothing to do except to keep going. Hope you have an...

Welcome to our weekly newsletter! 08 June 2025 Hey friend, I was away for a week and realised two things. 1. The systems and team I have around me kept things pushing while I was gone. No need to panic. 2. The human interaction needed in project management really suffers when I am not around (physically and virtually). The old truth remains true; technical details are easy, humans are tricky. Some Thoughts Non-attachment is a powerful mindset that frees you from the emotional highs and lows...

Welcome to our weekly newsletter! 1 June 2025 Hey friend, I spent the last week thinking about the cost/benefit of my work. Am I doing too much? Is it costing me too much in other areas of my life? Should I be proud of myself for my efforts or should I be going harder? Do you ever wonder the same thing? Some Thoughts Bulgarian weightlifting coach Ivan Abadjiev used to say "don't be too self-confident". I am trying to take a moment to pause before being too self confident. Too sure that I am...
