Goodbye 2024 - Weekly Newsletter

Welcome to our weekly newsletter!

29 December 2024

Hey friend,

Welcome to the last newsletter of 2024. But don't stress, we aren't going anywhere. It's been a successful year and I'm happy with what we have managed to create. And the most important thing we created: valuable, mindset shifting, life-changing info for project professionals like you.

Some Thoughts

Matthew Dicks said; “I don’t memorise a story, I remember it”. Now Matthew is the winner of six storytelling championships so his advice is worth noting. And useful. Project managers often present information. Usually to the background of dry powerpoint slides. The last thing we need is more dry, memorised speech. Next time, try not to memorise but to remember. Know the flow and narrative arc of your story. Understand it deeply. So deeply that you leave space for a bit of creativity. So that you can flow more naturally and keep your audience absorbed.

What you will learn this week:

☀️ The best things we did in 2024.

🌍 The cool ways we are creating value (for you) in 2025.

Annual Letter 2024

Hi friends

It’s December 2024 and time for our annual letter. Time to look at what we achieved, what we didn’t achieve, and where we want to go in the future. I really can’t believe that it’s been a full year since my last letter.

Key Achievements in 2024:

How about we start on a positive. With some key achievements for 2024.

  • We reached 750 email subscribers. This is a big one for me. Email growth has been slow but I am hoping we can get more project managers involved in our community in future.
  • We launched on Substack. We were already on Medium, but Substack is a new challenge. What I like about it is the Notes feature. It allows me to write short-form insights in a way that feels more authentic than Twitter/X. If you like bite-sized, actionable information, be sure to check that out.

We are on a fantastic Gumroad streak, releasing one product weekly for six months (25 products total). I’m super excited about that and we’ve received over 250 downloads of our free products. It’s super cool that project managers around the world are benefiting from these products.

Postscript

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for a great year. My wish for you is that you do two things in 2025.

1) Learn more about what makes you successful.

2) Truly believe that you are worthy of success.

Until next time,

Jonathan (The Effective Project Manager)

31 August 2025 Hey friends This week's newsletter has a bit of a career focus. Some things to help your career and some things to help you re-evaluate where you want to go. I have new, more senior positions opening up in my company, but I don't want to apply for them. And I've asked myself why this is. And there are a few reasons, I think. The first is that I'm quite happy with my life. I'm quite satisfied. I think that I earn a reasonable amount of money. Secondly, I have a reasonable amount...

24 August 2025 Hey friends I have new senior management starting soon and it's created a bit of fear in me and I wanted to examine why I have that fear. Is it because that I don't think I'm good enough? Is it because I'm scared that my way of working will be challenged? Is it because I'll be pushed out of my comfort zone? Or is it because I think that our team has already reached perfection and doesn't need change? If I was completely confident in myself and in my team, my processes and...

17 August 2025 Hey friends I am stretched super thin at the moment. I have too many hobbies. Too many pseudo-hobbies (half-work-half-hobby). Too much real, paying work. And what I find is the age-old truth: What you focus on, grows. What you neglect, withers. Even if I feel like I am still doing the bare minimum, I soon see that I am letting things slip. Giving things up is hard though. Do you feel like you are doing too much? Spread too thin? The Big Idea Are you doing more than ever but...
