5 January 2025

Hey friend,

Welcome to 2025 and our first newsletter of the year. I hope that you plan big and achieve big this year. And I hope that we can keep providing you value in your project management (and life) journey.

Some Thoughts

“The road to success is paved with mistakes well handled.” ~ Danny Meyer. I think about this quote when I am disappointed. I don’t think it needs much explanation. When something bad happens to you, feel free to feel it. Feel your feelings. But then realise that the next step is within your control. Handle your next moves in the correct way and you will be moving towards your inevitable success.

What you will learn this week:

Follow These Steps To Become A Remote Project Manager

Transitioning to remote work as a project manager offers numerous advantages: flexibility, a better work-life balance, and the opportunity to work from virtually anywhere. For Gen Z and Millennial professionals who have already garnered a few years of project management experience, moving to a remote setting can be the next exciting step in your career. This guide will take you through the essential steps to become an effective remote project manager.

Setting Up a Remote Work Environment

The foundation of successful remote work lies in a well-organized and dedicated workspace. Here’s how to create one:

  • Choose the Right Space: Select a quiet, comfortable area free from distractions. Ideally, this space should be separate from your living areas to maintain a clear boundary between work and personal life.
  • Invest in Equipment: A reliable computer, high-speed internet connection (ideally 100Mbit/s or more), and quality peripherals like a headset and webcam are crucial. Ergonomic furniture is also essential to avoid strain during long working hours.
  • Organize Your Space: Keep your workspace tidy and organized. Use shelves, drawers, and digital tools to manage documents and supplies efficiently.
  • Set Up Proper Lighting: Good lighting reduces eye strain and keeps you alert. Natural light is best, but if that’s not possible, opt for bright, white light to mimic daylight. Good lighting also ensures you look professional on video calls.

Managing Time

Time management becomes even more critical when working remotely.

31 August 2025 Hey friends This week's newsletter has a bit of a career focus. Some things to help your career and some things to help you re-evaluate where you want to go. I have new, more senior positions opening up in my company, but I don't want to apply for them. And I've asked myself why this is. And there are a few reasons, I think. The first is that I'm quite happy with my life. I'm quite satisfied. I think that I earn a reasonable amount of money. Secondly, I have a reasonable amount...

24 August 2025 Hey friends I have new senior management starting soon and it's created a bit of fear in me and I wanted to examine why I have that fear. Is it because that I don't think I'm good enough? Is it because I'm scared that my way of working will be challenged? Is it because I'll be pushed out of my comfort zone? Or is it because I think that our team has already reached perfection and doesn't need change? If I was completely confident in myself and in my team, my processes and...

17 August 2025 Hey friends I am stretched super thin at the moment. I have too many hobbies. Too many pseudo-hobbies (half-work-half-hobby). Too much real, paying work. And what I find is the age-old truth: What you focus on, grows. What you neglect, withers. Even if I feel like I am still doing the bare minimum, I soon see that I am letting things slip. Giving things up is hard though. Do you feel like you are doing too much? Spread too thin? The Big Idea Are you doing more than ever but...
